Decanting Vintage Port

Wine/Port benefits from being poured into a special glass container, usually described as a carafe or decanter. This separates the liquid from any sediment deposits that may be in the bottle. It also exposes the wine to the atmosphere which allows it to 'open out' its bouquet and flavour. The bottle of wine should be stood up for about one hour before decanting to allow the sediment to settle on the bottom.
